Measurements
How do I measure my kitchen doors correctly?
It's pretty straightforward. The main thing is to be organised. We have online measuring guides that show you exactly what to do, step by step.
What if I measure incorrectly?
Part of our process is to help you check everything twice, but if you make a mistake and we don't catch it before your order goes into production, you will need to reorder that item in the correct size.
Can I get help with measuring?
Our online help and video guides are very clear, but if you still feel unsure, asking a friend or a local tradesperson for help is a great idea. The best approach is to take your time and ALWAYS MEASURE TWICE. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a home measuring service as we can't cover the whole of mainland UK. If in doubt, drop us an email and we'll help.
Are there standard sizes for kitchen doors?
While many high street kitchen suppliers use their own 'standard' sizes, there isn't one 'standard' for everyone. On our order form, we offer a list of popular sizes you can choose from, but as all our doors are made-to-measure, you can also choose to input your own sizes manually. Either way, you'll get a perfect fit for your cabinets.
Can you make doors in bespoke sizes?
Yes, absolutely. Every door we make is manufactured to your exact measurements, so unusual or non-standard sizes are no problem at all.
Why is my door slightly smaller than my cabinet?
This is done on purpose. A small gap is needed around each door so they can open and close smoothly without catching on each other. That's why it's so important to measure your existing doors, not the cabinets themselves.
What are the most common mistakes when measuring doors?
The most common mistakes are:
- Measuring the front of a door instead of the flat back.
- Forgetting to measure in millimetres (mm).
- Only measuring once – a quick double-check can save you a lot of time and money.
How can I ensure my measurements are accurate?
It all comes down to three simple things:
- Always use a metal tape measure.
- Always measure in millimetres.
- Always measure everything twice.
Follow our guides, take your time, and you'll get it right. If you're ever unsure, just ask.
Can I return or exchange doors if they don't fit?
Because every door is made-to-measure specifically for you, we can't accept returns or exchanges if the wrong sizes are ordered. Once a door is made to your unique dimensions, we can't reuse it or sell it to anyone else. This is why we stress the importance of following the measuring guides and checking your measurements TWICE before ordering. However, if WE make a mistake and the door you receive doesn't match the measurements, style, or colour you ordered, that's on us. We'll replace it immediately.
Ordering and Delivery
How do I place an order?
Start by planning and measuring your items carefully. Make a plan and do a drawing. It might seem like overkill but a good plan always helps to avoid mistakes and oversights. Use our helpful planning sheets and order sheets, available to download online.
When you're ready, you can order everything directly on our website. You'll see the price change in real-time as you configure your items. If you're unsure about anything, our ordering guides are here to help, or you can drop us an email or give us a call.
You can also use our Simple Order Form online. This is designed for people who prefer to see a list of items as opposed to a shopping cart. Use the online form to create your order, send it to us and we'll create an order online for you to check and pay for.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards for payment.
Do I have to pay for everything up front?
Yes, we take full payment when you place your order. You'll be sent an email to confirm your choices and we wait for 24 hours before starting production. This allows a cooling-off period and a chance for you to spot anything you might have missed or ordered incorrectly. 24 hours after we receive your order, your payment will be fully processed and production will begin.
How long does it take to receive my order?
Because your doors are made-to-order, it usually takes around 15 working days from order to delivery. We'll be in touch to let you know when your order is on its way, with a confirmed delivery date.
Can I track my order?
Yes, of course. We'll send you an email with full tracking details as soon as your order has been dispatched.
Can I make changes to my order after it has been placed?
You have 24 hours from placing your order to make any changes. After this window, your order will have gone into production and changes won't be possible. If you need to make a change within the 24-hour window, contact us as soon as possible.
Can I cancel my order?
You can cancel your order within 24 hours of placing it, before production begins. After 24 hours, your order goes into production and cancellations aren't possible. If you need to cancel within this window, please contact us immediately.
I've placed my order and forgotten something. Can I add to it?
Get in touch as soon as you spot it. We don't send orders to production straight away, so if you catch us in time we can usually add the missing items to your existing order and send everything together with no extra delivery cost. If your order has already gone to production, we can still supply the item, but it will be a separate order with its own delivery charge.
Can I order a custom-made kitchen door?
That's exactly what we do. Every door is made-to-measure, so you always get a door that's custom-made for your kitchen. There's no minimum order, so whether you need a full kitchen or a single replacement door, we can help.
Do you have a minimum order value?
No. You can order a single door if that's all you need. Delivery is charged based on your order value, so smaller orders carry a delivery cost while orders over £500 are delivered free.
Do you send out colour swatches?
Yes, we supply sample doors and colour swatches so you can feel the quality and see them in your own home, under your own lighting. You can order sample doors here.
What is included in the price?
The price you see on the website is the price for your items, including our free hinge hole drilling service if you need it. Delivery is added at checkout and is free on orders over £500.
Are there any hidden costs?
No, not at all. We believe in clear, upfront pricing so there are no surprises.
Do you charge for delivery?
Delivery is free on all orders of £500 and above. Below that, delivery is £40 for orders from £125 to £499.99, and £25 for orders under £125. Sample doors are always delivered free.
We deliver across Mainland UK and Northern Ireland. You can see full details and up-to-date delivery charges here.
Installation and Fitting
Can I install my Simple Kitchen Makeover by myself?
Yes, definitely. It's more straightforward than you might think and our online guides will walk you through every step. Self-installation will depend on which items you're replacing and your own ability. You can decide which items you're confident to tackle yourself and which you might need help with. We always advise getting help if you're unsure. Worktops and scribing are often best left to experienced professionals. See our installation guides.
Do you offer installation services?
We don't offer an installation service ourselves. But we show you exactly how to install your items with our clear, step-by-step guides, making it a straightforward job you can easily manage yourself. If you don't feel up to it, you'll find it's a quick and easy job for a professional or a family friend with a bit more experience.
How much does installation cost?
Since we don't offer an installation service, there's no fitting cost from us. Replacing kitchen doors is a quick job that a confident DIY enthusiast, a friend, or a local handyman can easily manage. As a guide, you should budget for a few hundred pounds, not thousands.
How do you ensure my old hinges will fit my new doors?
We drill the hinge holes for you, and it's completely free. When you order, just select the drilling option and give us the positions of your existing hinge holes. Your doors arrive ready to take your old hinges straight back on, so there's no drilling, measuring or guesswork on the day you fit them.
Should I reuse my old hinges or buy new ones?
Reusing your old hinges is perfectly fine and costs you nothing, and our free drilling makes sure they line up. That said, hinges are the part of a kitchen that gets the hardest life. If yours are 10 or 15 years old, sagging, or the doors have started to catch, this is the ideal moment to replace them while everything is off the cabinets anyway.
We supply soft-close Hettich hinges, which you can add by the pair as you order each door. They close quietly and gently every time, and they're the single upgrade that makes a set of new doors feel properly new rather than just newly painted. Hettich are a German manufacturer with a long reputation, so these are a genuine step up from a typical builder's-merchant hinge.
How long does it take to install the doors?
It's a pretty quick job. For an average-sized kitchen, most people can get it done in a day. The process is simply unscrewing the old doors and fitting the new ones. The part that takes a little time and patience is adjusting the hinges to get your doors perfectly aligned and fitting your new handles. As a guide, removing an old door, fitting new hinges, and refitting the new door will take around 10-15 minutes per door. Levelling the door might take another few minutes.
What tools do I need for installation?
The tools you'll need depend on how much of the installation you plan on tackling yourself. For the simplest of kitchen makeovers (doors, drawers, handles, and hinges), you'll only need some basic tools:
- Tape measure
- Sharp pencil and masking tape
- Phillips screwdriver
- Electric drill and 5mm drill bit
- Bradawl
Other cheap and helpful tools would include a quick clamp, a handle jig, and a mitre square.

Guarantees and Support
What guarantee do your products have?
All of our doors and accessories come with a 6-year FIRA Gold guarantee, so you can be confident they're built to last.
What does the guarantee cover?
Our guarantee covers any defects in manufacturing or materials. It doesn't cover accidental damage or general wear and tear from normal kitchen use.
How do I make a claim under the guarantee?
It's simple. Just get in touch with our customer service team by email. Please include your original order number and a photo of the issue, and we'll take it from there.
What if my packaging arrives damaged?
Packages can get damaged in transit. We take great care to package your items with corner protection and double packing, but accidents can happen. If your packaging appears damaged on delivery, please sign for your order as "ARRIVED WITH DAMAGED PACKAGING" and take a few pictures of the damage. Your driver will countersign this. This is just a precautionary measure; it's unlikely that the item inside is damaged.
What if my product arrives damaged?
We take great care in packing our doors, but very occasionally, damage can happen during delivery. If your order arrives damaged, please contact us straight away with confirmation pictures of the damaged items. We'll arrange for a replacement to be sent out to you as quickly as possible.
What if my product arrives and is not what I ordered?
We're proud to say that this has never happened yet. We're all human though, and sometimes we can get things wrong. If we make a mistake, we'll replace that item as soon as possible, at our cost. If you've ordered an incorrect item, you would be responsible for the cost of a replacement.
What is the expected lifespan of the doors?
We can only say a minimum of 6 years, in line with our guarantee. However, our manufacturer has been in business for over 30 years and still gets Christmas cards from customers with kitchens as old as they are. Wear and tear plays a big part in the lifespan of any item. If you treat it well, it will do the same for you.
How do I maintain and clean the doors?
Use a soft cloth with a solution of warm water and a small amount of mild, non-abrasive liquid soap, then wipe with a clean damp cloth to remove residue, and dry with a soft, clean cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, bleach, abrasive sponges, and furniture polish. Immediately wipe up any spills or cooking splashes to prevent damage or discoloration to the finish.
Do you remove and dispose of old doors?
We don't. As a 'supply-only' company, we focus on getting your new doors to you safely and at a great price. You'll need to arrange for the disposal of your old doors, but you have a few options. Many local councils offer a bulk waste collection service, or you can take them to your local recycling centre. If they're still in good condition, you could even try selling them or giving them away online.
How can I contact customer service?
The best way to reach our team is by email at contact@simplekitchenmakeover.co.uk. We aim to respond within 24 hours on working days.
